With over 500,000 photographs to choose from, based on the success of Municipal Stadium, Memories on the Lakefront, Memories of a Lifetime Volume I utilizes over 600 images from the Cleveland Pres Collection, Cleveland State University.
Part photo album, part history book, Volume I uses The Press Collection images to create distinct newspaper sections such as Sports, Radio and TV, Entertainment, and Politics to keep the newspaper theme alive throughout the entire project!
These unique sections allow a page on legendary WEWS-TV5 anchorwoman Dorothy Fuldheim to be placed across from WJW-TV8 Shock Theater host Ernie (Ghoulardi) Anderson in the Radio and TV section. Or, a photograph of weatherman Dick Goddard as he began his career in 1961 at WKYC-TV3 above a photograph of weatherman Al Roker standing in the same spot at Channel 3 twenty years later in the same section.
Other images of note include a look at John F. Kennedy from author to President in the Politics section; Amelia Earhart with fellow female aviators during the 1932 National Air Races at Cleveland Airport in the Transportation section; and the Hollywood Bond Cavalcade here in 1943 with Judy Garland, Lucille Ball, Greer Garson, Mickey Rooney, Fred Astaire, Harpo Marx, Ish Kabibble, and Kathryn Grayson in a section devoted to the War Years.
You’ll also find Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at Cleveland’s Glenville High School in 1967 in the Schools section, along with Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller with baseball great Cy Young in 1941, and New Tork Yankee’s Hall of Fame slugger Babe Ruth with Lou Gehrig at League Park in 1927, the year Babe hit his record 60 home runs featured in the Sports section, along with Jim Brown, Jesse Owens, and so many others!
